Solution to Spiritual Sickness

"A man named Jack was walking along a steep cliff one day when he accidentally got too close to the edge and fell. On the way down he grabbed a branch, which temporarily stopped his fall. He looked down and to his horror saw that the canyon fell straight down for more than a thousand feet. He couldn't hang onto the branch forever, and there was no way for him to climb up the steep wall of the cliff.

"So Jack began yelling for help, hoping that somebody passing by would hear him and lower a rope or something. "HELP! HELP! Is anyone up there? Help!" He yelled for hours, but no one heard him. He was about to give up when he heard a voice.

"`Jack. Jack. Can you hear me?'

"`Yes, yes, I can hear you. I'm down here!'

"`I can see you, Jack. Are you all right?'

"`Yes, but...who are you, and where are you?'

"`I am the Lord, Jack. I'm everywhere.'

"`The Lord? You mean GOD?'

"`That's Me.'

"`God, please help me! I promise--If You'll get me down from here, I'll stop sinning. I'll be a really good person. I'll serve You for the rest of my life.'

"`Easy on the promises, Jack. Let's just get you down from there, and then we can talk. Now, here's what I want you to do. Listen carefully.'

"`I'll do anything You say, Lord. Just tell me what to do.'

"`Okay. Let go of the branch.'

"`What?'

"`I said to let go of the branch. Just trust Me and let go.'

"There was a long silence. Finally, Jack yelled, `HELP! HELP! Is there anyone else up there?'

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, (Ephesians 3:20 NKJV)

3 AREAS OF SPIRITUAL SICKNESS THAT GOD PROVIDES HEALING:

Psalms 78:12-20

1. HEALING FROM FAITHLESSNESS - (v. 20, 41)

Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. (Psalms 78:20, 40, 41 KJV)

Here was a people who called themselves by God's name. Here was a people who should have trusted the Lord without reservation. Yet, they seemed oblivious to the power of God in their midst.

2. HEALING FROM FORGETFULNESS - (v. 7-16; 20-29; 42-55; 65-72)

Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God. The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law; And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them. Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap. In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers. (Psalms 78:1, 7-16 KJV)

The nation of Israel seemed to be unable to remember all the great miracles that God had performed on their behalf. They were forgetful of the mighty power of God they had witnessed in their lives.

PROBLEM:HOW SOON WE FORGET?

3. HEALING FROM FOOLISHNESS - vs 19

Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? (Psalms 78:19 (KJV)

By asking "Can God?" they proved their ignorance of His power and of His Person. This same scene was played out many times during the course of Israel's wilderness wanderings, and after they arrived n Canaan. One time that comes to mind is when the 12 spies were sent into Canaan. While there, they encountered a race of people known as the Anakim. They were giants. When the 10 faithless spies saw the giants, they looked at them and then they looked at themselves and compared themselves to grasshoppers, Numbers 13:33.

SOLUTION:QUIT SEEING THE GIANTS AND SEE & SEEK GOD FOR HEALING.
