I'm Dreaming of the Right Christmas

WHAT MAKES THE RIGHT CHRISTMAS?:

  1. Focus on Gifts - DO NOT MAKE CHRISTMAS

  1. Focus on Trees & Lights – DO NOT MAKE CHRISTMAS

  1. Focus on Traditions – DO NOT MAKE CHRISTMAS

  1. Focus on Characters (Rudolph, Frosty, Santa) – DO NOT MAKE CHRISTMAS

TRUTH: WITHOUT CHRIST, WE HAVE NO CHRISTMAS.

In Dec., 1903 after many attempts the Wright Brothers were successful in getting their first flying machine off the ground.  Thrilled, they telegraphed their sister the following message:  “We have actually flown 120 feet.  We will be home for Christmas.”

Katherine hurried to the editor of the local newspaper and showed him the message.  He glanced and said, “How nice, the boys will be home for Christmas.”  He totally missed the history changing event that would change lives forever that the boys had flown.

At Christmas, many people get so caught up in the GIFTS, DECORATIONS, MEALS,

AND TEMPORAL THINGS; We miss the HISTORICAL EVENT that still changes lives:

JESUS COMING AS THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD.

4 WAYS to celebrate a RIGHT CHRISTMAS:

  1. RECEIVE JESUS  - John 1:1, 14, 12

John 1:1 (ESV)

1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

12  But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

13  who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

14  And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

About 1830, a man named George Wilson killed a government employee who caught him in the act of robbing the mails. Wilson was tried and sentenced to be hanged. The President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, sent Wilson a pardon. But, Wilson did a strange thing: he refused to accept the pardon.

No one seemed to know hat to do because of this, so Wilson’s case was sent to the U. S. Supreme Court. Chief Justice Marshall wrote the opinion: “A pardon is a slip of paper, the value of which is determined by the acceptance of the person to be pardoned. If it is refused, it is no pardon. George Wilson must be hanged.” And he was.

The cross of Christ is God’s pardon.  If refused, it is no pardon.

Have you accepted God’s pardon in Christ Jesus?

  1. INCLUDE JESUS – Lk. 2:7

Luke 2:7 (ESV)

And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

TRUTH:SOME ARE MARKETING CHRIST OUT OF CHRISTMAS.  DEAR CHRISTIAN, OUR CHRISTMAS IS NOT FOR SALE.

TRUTH:  THE INNKEEPER HAS GONE DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE MAN WHO HAD NO ROOM FOR CHIRST AT CHRISTMAS.

TRUTH:IF STRUGGLING WITH THE DECISION OF WHETHER OR NOT TO INCLUDE CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS, REMEMBER HE INCLUDED YOU.

Rev. 3:20  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

  1. SHARE JESUS– Lk. 2:8-11

Luke 2:8-11 (ESV)

8  And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9  And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.

10  And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

11  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

TEXT:  vs. 10 tell us that the birth of the Savior was good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

  1. WORSHIP JESUS – Lk. 2:13-14, 20

Luke 2:13-14 (ESV)

13  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14  “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

TRUTH:Every one that SAW the Savior WORSHIPPED the Savior.

  • WISE MEN - Rejoice. “They rejoiced with exceeding great joy” (Matt 2:10).

  • MARY - Magnify. “My soul doth magnify the Lord” (Luke 1:46).

  • SHEPHERDS - Praise. “The shepherd . . . praising God” (Luke 2:20).

  • SHEPHERDS - Glorify. “The shepherds returned glorifying . . .” (Luke 2:20).

It has been suggested, according to N.C. Peyrouton, in an article in the Dickensian (Spring, May 1963, p.106) that the theme of “A Christmas Carol” parallels the theology that “the salvation of man’s soul is affected by the change of heart and life wrought by Christ’s Spirit.”

As Tiny Tim observed, during this season we must reflect upon “He who made lame beggars walk and blind men see.”
